Adulis Restaurant was born in 1996 as a fully licensed establishment. We call Adulis LITTLE ERITREA and here, we pride ourselves for serving up good food and offering a truly Eritrean experience. Our restaurant is named after the ancient port city – Adulis – on the Red Sea in Eritrea. Throughout most of ancient times, it stood in the forefront of trade between Yemen and the cities of Nubia with its churches and palaces built of local basalt.
Following a meal, fresh coffee beans are roasted and offered to guests to have a waft of the aroma. The roast is then ground and put into a traditional clay vessel, called a jebena, and boiled. Coffee is traditionally accompanied with burning frankincense and served with popcorns.
Our restaurant has a fully air-conditioned private room ideal for private functions which can accommodate up to 120 people for dinner or 150 for cocktails. Functions may include wedding receptions, meetings and office parties. The private space is equipped with a full-service bar serving a variety of drinks. For more information, please contact us on: 020 7587 0055 or fill out the booking form.
Miés is the drink of drinks in Eritrea and is made from fermented honey. Traditionally, a wood barrel is smoked thoroughly using Geso twigs before honey is poured in to ferment for days. The end result is wine infused with warm, aromatic herbs and spices to nourish the soul. Adulis Miés is a traditional drink produced to a high standard and is a perfect accompaniment to Eritrean dishes ranging from meat, fish and vegetarian.
Injera with Tsebhi (Stew) is one of the main traditional foods in Eritrean cuisine. Injera, also called Taita, is leavened pancake made with sourdough of Taff flour. Injera is prepared by mixing Taff flour with water and left to ferment for a few days. When the mixture matures, it is baked on a round clay stove into large flat pancakes.
