THE NAME

Adulis was an ancient port city on the Red Sea in Eritrea. Throughout most of ancient times, it stood in the forefront of trade between Yemen and the cities of Nubia. Adulis, with its churches and palaces built of local basalt, was a major city thriving in the first century BC. HISTORY Adulis Restaurant was born in 1996 as a fully licensed establishment. We call Adulis LITTLE ERITREA. At Adulis, we pride ourselves for serving up good food and offering a truly Eritrean experience. Throughout the ten years it has been in existence, the restaurant has seen great changes.

In 2003, family Adulis expanded the place by acquiring the former Indian restaurant next door to form a bigger space. This was coupled with an extensive refurbishment work resulting in an entirely new setup. Adulis now boasts two dining areas on the ground floor with two separate bars. The basement has been extended and it can now accommodate over a hundred people and includes an all-inclusive bar.

PHILOSOPHY

The Adulis philosophy is driven by a commitment to provide good and wholesome food within an authentic Eritrean setting. In order to stay true to our commitment, we import all of our organic herbs and spices directly from Eritrea. Moreover, our fish is imported from Eritrea as harvested from the Red Sea.

You can also have a taste o f the homegrown beer - Asmara - as well Eritrean honey wine at Adulis.All our recipes are prepared in a strictly traditional manner without modifying them to meet a 'stranger's' preference. By doing so, we believe that we can give our customers the best of Eritrean cuisine. Our injera is freshly baked in-house on a daily basis.

THE SETTING

Once you walk into our restaurant - or little Eritrea as we like to call it - our aim is to take you to another world. Our restaurant reflects the diverse cultural heritage of Eritrea in the way it is decorated. We will receive you with a friendly and warm Eritrean greeting and allow you to enjoy our uniquely decorated Restaurant while you wait for your food. Our staff will be more than happy to explain should your curiosity get the better of you. If it is your first time, don't worry, the adventure will be worth it and our staff will be at hand to guide you through the menu.
